All The Details About ‘Legally Blonde 3’ Coming Out.

Reese Witherspoon helped put Legally Blonde on the map with her portrayal of sorority president-turned-lawyer Elle Woods. Seventeen years after Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, news broke of Legally Blonde 3 being officially in the works. Here’s what you need to know about this highly-anticipated sequel.
Kaling In The Mix
The Office’s Mindy Kaling has been hired as a co-writer on the film. This won’t be the first time Kaling and Witherspoon have worked together. In 2017, Witherspoon guest starred in Kaling’s sitcom, The Mindy Project. In the episode “Girl Gone Wild,” Witherspoon portrays herself in a hilarious cameo. The following year, the two stars appeared in the film A Wrinkle in Time. In the movie, they portray astral beings helping a young girl find her missing father. This will be Kaling’s second writing credit for films. Recently, she wrote the screenplay for Late Night, which stars Emma Thompson and John Lithgow. There’s no word if Kaling will star in the film.
More For Goor
Co-writing the film along with Kaling is Dan Goor, who wrote for Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The Washington D.C. native won two Emmys for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program. This will be his second project with Kaling. The pair will co-write a comedy starring Kaling and Priyanka Chopra. Kaling and Goor took over the writing duties from Kristen Smith and Karen McCullah. Smith and McCullah, who were attached to the project in 2018, co-wrote the first Legally Blonde movie.
A Major Opportunity For Suk
Jamie Suk has been tapped to direct Legally Blonde 3. Suk made her directorial debut with 2017’s The Good Girl. The 17-minute short film deals with the class president trying to come up with the perfect poem. While Suk only has one film credit to her name, the film was good enough to result in her being hired by MGM Studios.
Wilson Hasn’t Heard Anything
Luke Wilson, who played Emmett Richmond, doesn’t know if he’s coming back for round three. “I have not talked to Reese about it, but yeah I always kind of hear rumors here and there. Never anything official about them doing another Legally Blonde, but I’d love to do another one,” Wilson told Entertainment Tonight. “I mean, just that character Reese played was so funny at the time and that has kind of become this iconic character now.” Wilson had the role in the bag before auditioning for it. “We always called this the Luke Wilson role as we were writing it. They auditioned a bunch of other guys and we’re like, “How about auditioning Luke Wilson for the Luke Wilson role?,” McCullah told Entertainment Weekly.
In Legally Blonde, Richmond begins falling for Woods. At the end of the film, the two are madly in love with each other. The sequel finds the couple tying the knot in Washington D.C. Wilson has an interesting idea of where the happy couple would land today. “I would say they definitely have a few children, and I just think that it’d be really funny if Reese had a little mini-me, a version of herself. I would definitely think that they’d have a couple of children,” Wilson also told Entertainment Weekly.

Witherspoon Back As Producer
Through her production company Hello Sunshine, Witherspoon will co-produce the sequel. Witherspoon co-produced the 2009 spin-off movie Legally Blondes, which follows Woods’ British twin cousins. The actress will reunite with Marc Platt, who produced the previous Legally Blonde films. Witherspoon and Platt won’t be alone as producers for this one. President of Platt Productions Adam Siegel and Hello Sunshine Head Of Film & TV Lauren Neustadter will also help out.
With all the actresses, writers, directors, and potential script surprises, this movie is sure to be as empowering as the first two.
