Alec Baldwin Steps Away From ‘Joker’ 48 Hours After Being Cast

Published

on

One of the most interesting castings for the Joker film was Alec Baldwin. As Thomas Wayne, his performance was slated to stand out for many Batman fans. Unfortunately, that’s not going to be the case now.

Turning It Down

Baldwin revealed that he isn’t available for that role. “Let me state, for the record, that I have NOT been hired to play a role in Todd Phillips’ Joker as some Donald Trump manque. That is not happening. Not. Happening,” he tweeted.

Talking to USA Today, Baldwin stated that he turned down the gig due to scheduling conflicts. When it comes to who could play the role, the actor doesn’t have one exact person in mind. “I’m sure there are 25 guys who can play that part,” he told the publication. Baldwin will be busy with his talk show The Alec Baldwin Show, which will premiere this fall.

A Questionable Addition

The announcement of Thomas Wayne for the film drew criticism from a handful of people. Since this film is based around the Joker, having Wayne around would be a bit pointless. A possible scene with the two characters meeting would be very surreal for longtime comic book fans.

Since this isn’t connected to the DC Extended Universe, director Todd Phillips can go a bit wild with the story. Phillps is best known for his work on The Hangover franchise. The Joker film is slated to be an origin story with a dark crime drama approach.

Why So Serious?

Well, who exactly is in the film? Joaquin Phoenix will take over the Joker role from Jared Leto. Oscar winner Robert De Niro and Golden Globe winner Frances Conroy have also been cast in unspecified roles. Rounding out the cast are Zazie Beetz, who recently starred in Deadpool 2, and comedian Marc Maron, who currently appears in Netflix’s Glow.

Unlike other DC Films, this one will obtain an R-rating. Shooting for the movie is set to begin later this month in New York City.
