5 Actors That Cut It In The Music World

Just like everyone else, actors love rocking out to their favorite songs. A few of them tried to live out their rock star fantasies. Whether they succeeded or not, they certainly have a story to tell! We look at five actors that dropped an album or two over the years.

Party On, Dudes

Before dodging bullets in The Matrix, Keanu Reeves was slapping the bass in Dogstar. “You know, we started in a garage, and then you end up starting to write songs, and then you’re like ‘Let’s go out and play them!’, and then you’re like ‘Let’s go on tour!” Reeves told Jimmy Fallon. Dogstar performed alongside David Bowie and Bon Jovi before hanging it up in 2002. The band released two albums: 1996’s Our Little Visionary and 2000’s Happy Ending.

Pulling Our Heartstrings

After appearing on Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad,” Leighton Meester dove deeper in the music world. In 2014, she unveiled her debut studio album Heartstrings. The nine-track album topped the Heatseekers Albums chart upon its release. Meester put her music career to the side to focus on roles in Single Parents and Making History.

Chan’s The Man

It may surprise many to see Jackie Chan setting his stunts aside for some crooning. Since 1984, the action star has released numerous albums, including 2018’s I Am Me. “To be honest, I’m not a professional singer. I just love to sing, because, through singing, I’m able to express many things that I usually can’t say with words,” Chan told Entertainment Weekly.

Big In Japan

Actress Alyssa Milano rarely mentions her short-lived singing career from the late ’80s. The Charmed star unveiled four albums exclusively in Japan, including 1992’s Do You See Me? “I’d much rather have it released where it’s appreciated than laughed at,” she told The L.A. Times in 1991. In 2013, Jimmy Kimmel surprised Milano with video of her musical past on his show. “You’re like the Japanese David Hasselhoff in a way,” Kimmel said.

Finally Out Of The Industry

While she’s saving the world as Captain Marvel, Brie Larson was once a budding pop star. The actress gained a record deal after her song “Invisible Girl” gained radio play. In 2005, Larson released her debut album Finally Out of P.E. Larson closed the book on her music career due to differences with Universal Records. “I wanted to write all my own songs, and they were afraid of that. I wanted to wear sneakers and play my guitar — they wanted heels and windblown hair,” she said in a 2010 MySpace post. In 2018, Larson lent her singing skills to the comedy musical Basmati Blues.
