ABC Renews ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ For Two More Seasons

Grey's Anatomy

It’s been over 14 years since the very first Grey’s Anatomy episode premiered on ABC. We watched Merideth, Christina, and Alex move from hopeless interns to powerful, caring, and confident leaders of the medical community. They have faced countless losses, endured heartbreak and loved one another, and are making new strides as seasoned attending across the country. Now, we’re awaiting seasons 16 and 17, which have just been confirmed by ABC last Friday. Fans are excited to see where series star Ellen Pompeo and showrunner Krista Vernoff take things next, especially after the dramatic ending to season 15 this past May. With so much left unresolved, where will the doctors go next in their lives?

Ellen Pompeo Renews Her Contract For 2020 And 2021

Ellen Pompeo, both the lead character and one of the show’s producers, has recently signed a contract to continue her role on Grey’s Anatomy until 2021. This means that at least two more seasons of Grey’s are locked in. The Grey’s Anatomy spinoff series Station 19 has also been renewed for a third season with showrunner Vernoff taking the lead. Vernoff stepped in after show creator Shonda Rhimes signed an exclusive contract with Netflix in 2014. The fans, cast, and other show creators of Grey’s Anatomy have been pleased with Vernoff’s creative direction for the show and are excited to see what she brings to the table next. The season 15 cliffhanger didn’t pull any punches, and fans are dying to know what happens to Jo, Alex, Merideth, Teddy, and Owen next season.

Grey’s Becomes The Most Popular Medical Drama Of All Time

Season 14 was a major season for Grey’s Anatomy, as it marks their 300th episode, which earned them a significant title in television. That episode marked the moment that Grey’s surpassed ER in the number of episodes, making the show the longest-running medical drama in T.V. history. Krista Vernoff, Ellen Pompeo, and the rest of the Grey’s Anatomy team were elated to have reached such an important milestone together. Krista Vernoff said about their landmark achievement, “With the 300th episode, we looked backward. It was a very nostalgic episode. It paid tribute to the whole length of the series. With this episode, we made the decision to look forward and to celebrate how far we’ve come, and how far we have yet to go. It seems like it could go on forever and I think that’s our hope.”

When Will Grey’s Anatomy Call It Quits?

Though Vernoff is the showrunner, everyone who watches Grey’s Anatomy knows that Ellen Pompeo runs things. She has been straightforward in interviews about her input in the show, and how she views her and Shonda Rhimes as the heart of the series. Pompeo’s Merideth, along with Justin Chambers’ Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson’s Miranda Bailey, and James Pickens Jr.’s Richard Webber have been on since the show’s inception. Their input and enthusiasm for the show will determine how many more seasons of Grey’s Anatomy fans still have left to enjoy. Pompeo said in an interview with ET’s Denny Directo, “It’s something Shonda [Rhimes] and I will decide together. I’ve been doing it a long time and I do get restless, but the fans are just still so passionate about the show… When the numbers start to drop and people aren’t watching the same, people aren’t as passionate about it… it’s time to call it.” So, it sounds as if the fans are in control of how long Grey’s Anatomy will be on ABC. As long as people still want more, Pompeo and Vernoff seem excited to release more and more seasons of everyone’s favorite medical drama.

The Women Behind Two and a Half Men

Two and a Half Men’s Charlie, Alan, and Jake had one of the most exciting bachelor lifestyles together. Stretching over the course of 13 years and 12 seasons, the show saw many adventures and many talented actresses, some of whom were relatively unknown at the time when they appeared on the show. But these women who helped make the series what it is have used their talent in many other remarkable ways, too.
