Wedding Cake Was Destroyed Until One Kind Stranger Saved the Day
One of the most awaited parts in weddings is when the bride and the groom cut the cake. Couples devote large chunks of their wedding budgets on getting the perfect cake. But what if your perfect wedding cake is ruined the night before your wedding day?
That is what happened to Millie Maltby’s wedding cake. After spending hours of baking and decorating, Millie and her groom were set to deliver their wedding cake to the venue where they were to be wed the next day. Due to a few traffic jams and really hot weather, Maltby’s cake started to melt from the middle layer, causing it to sag and loose its form.
“We had been joking about the entire journey about my husband’s driving and the state of the cake would be in” said Maltby. “It was a really hot day and we got caught in a lot of traffic,” she added.
When they arrived at their destination, Maltby’s soon-to-be-husband checked in on the cake only to discover that the ride had taken its toll on it. “He looked at me completely devastated. He felt awful, kept apologizing.”
Being the baker in the family, Maltby was sad when she realized that her family would not be able to see one of her best creations.
Luckily a woman by the name of Clare Vaz happened to drop by at the hotel that night. Vaz is the owner of a bakery named Pattys Piece of Cake. After hearing about what happened, she decided she was going to do something for the couple. “I happened to be in the right place at the right time,” Vaz said.
Although Vaz did not bake a new cake, she did manage to fix Maltby’s severly damaged cake. According to Vaz, “You can’t have a wedding without a cake! I know how long it would have taken the bride to make her stunning creation and it was heartbreaking to see it the way it was.”
“When I was told the story of how it was fixed I was shocked that someone would go to all that effort for a stranger. It’s just not something you see a lot anymore. She gave up her evening in order to fix the cake as she wanted me to have the perfect wedding day—a woman she’d never met,” Maltby stated.
