Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings series is that J. R. R. Tolkien fans are excited to witness. The series is slated to focus on a younger version of Aragorn. As expected, one L.O.T.R. vet had to throw in some words about this specific character.

Words Of Wisdom

Viggo Mortensen, who played Aragon in the films, talked a bit about the new series in a recent interview. As expected, he was pleased to learn that his old character would gain an interesting backstory for the show. Regardless of who plays his younger self, Mortensen wants this newcomer to dig in deep.

New Line Cinema

“I would say, not only read the book, you know, very thoroughly, that giant book of Lord of the Rings, but you could read some of the Nordic sagas. You’ll get some clues there as to where Tolkien got his information. Like, Sigurd the Dragon Slayer, and the Volsunga saga. Read that,” he said.

Learning To Adapt

Mortensen wasn’t the first choice for Aragon in the L.O.T.R. trilogy. He replaced actor Stuart Townsend days before filming began. The actor had an extremely rough time trying to comprehend things in such a short period of time.

“I was kind of freaked out because I said yeah and I’m on the plane, on this 13-hour plane flight, and I’m looking at the book, which I had never read. But as I started looking at it, I was like, ‘Well, there’s something.’ There’s always something that you can draw on,” he said.

To A Smartphone Near You

Fans are going to be waiting a while to see this new L.O.T.R. series come to life. The show is slated to begin filming sometime before mid-2020. Amazon beat rival streaming company Netflix for the rights to this series.
