Venom’s Box Office Performance Outdid X-Men, MCU, and DC Films

Published

on

When the first trailer was released, Venom had mixed feelings from everyone. The reviews, which were mostly scathing, didn’t really help things, either. Despite everything, the film became a hit at the box office. Now, it’s done something that many didn’t think would be possible.

A Worldwide Triumph

Venom, which earned $783.86 million, has the honor of out-grossing all of Fox’s X-Men films worldwide. That extra $860,000 is very important in this scenario. Deadpool, which was released in 2016, earned $783.1 million.

Sony

In terms of domestic numbers, Venom isn’t at the top of the list. The movie only earned $212 million over in the United States and Canada. Deadpool holds the domestic crown with a whopping $363 million. When it comes to Sony’s Marvel films, Venom crushed Spider-Man 2 ($783 million), The Amazing Spider-Man ($757 million), and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($708 million). Our favorite web-crawler still has Venom’s number, through. Venom hasn’t been able to catch up to Spider-Man ($821 million), Spider-Man 3 ($890 million), or Spider-Man: Homecoming ($880 million).

Taking Down The Competition

The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t safe from Venom‘s grasp, either. The film outdid Ant-Man and the Wasp ($622 million) and Doctor Strange ($677 million). Venom also managed to take down DC’s Justice League ($657 million) and Suicide Squad ($746 million).

Sony

Most of Venom‘s box office success lies overseas. In China, the film earned $243 million, which is more than the domestic numbers. These numbers give Venom the title of second biggest superhero film ever in China. The film also earns the title of fourth biggest imported film ever.

The Future Is Bright

With all of these numbers, Venom 2 is certainly in the works at Sony. While Spider-Man wasn’t in the first film, there have been talks of including him in the sequel.

Sony

Venom is proof that sometimes you have to ignore the critics in order to have a good time.
