The popular streaming service revealed that Somerhalder will star in V-Wars. This series is based on the IDW comic book series of the same name. In 2014, the comic was picked up for a TV adaptation by Entertainment One, though that company has since dropped out of producing the series. The show’s first season will be 10 episodes.

The CW

“We are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring the multifaceted world that Jonathan Maberry created to audiences worldwide,” stated IDW Entertainment president David Ozer.

The War Has Just Begun

V-Wars follows a fictional vampire war, which finds people transforming into vampires at an alarming rate. Somerhalder will play Dr. Luther Swann, who gets involved with the war after his friend’s transformation into a creature of the night.

IDW

The series was unveiled in 2012 by Jonathan Maberry, who won six Bram Stoker Awards for his work. This isn’t the first time one of Maberry’s works was picked up for TV. In 2010, ABC announced a series based on his popular Joe Ledger books. Titled Department Zero, the show was eventually dropped by the network.

Running The Show

Aside from acting, Somerhalder will be a director on the show. While on The Vampire Diaries, he directed a few episodes. Along with his wife Nikki Reed, Somerhalder runs a production company called Rare Bird Productions.

John Sciulli

Longtime writing partners William Laurin and Glenn Davis, who produced Aftermath and 1-800-Missing, will be V-Wars‘ showrunners. The pilot of the show will be directed by Brad Turner, who has worked on 24 and The Outer Limits. Fans can expect the show to premiere sometime in 2019.
