These Actors’ Ultimatums Completely Transformed Some Of Your Favorite Films

Published

on

While actors jobs may depend on following the director’s orders, some great, hysterical, or weird features of your favorite movies have come straight from the actors themselves. Here are five actors whose requests altered the scripts, costumes, and director’s choices drastically in the films they were starring in.

Crispin Glover: Refusing To Speak A Word

If you thought the “Thin Man” in Charlie’s Angels was intimidating already, Crispin Glover made a choice in the reboot that intensified the character’s creepiness: he refused to speak. Deciding that he wasn’t a fan of the script, Glover decided to replace his lines with complete and utter silence… and his bosses agreed.

Mafia Members: Scaring The Studio Into Altering The Script

While many of the “mafia” members in The Godfather were actors, the real mafia was angered by the derogatory contents of the film. Threats soon began against the studio and they were forced to deal with real mobsters. Along with casting a few mob members as extras, the mafia demanded that the directors remove one word from the entire script: “mafia.”

Samuel L. Jackson: His Hitman’s Hair

Samuel L. Jackson’s Pulp Fiction character’s Jheri curls are a trademark of the hitman’s style, yet it was only upon Jackson’s request that the hairstyle stuck around. Originally, the character was meant to have an Afro, yet the person who fetched the wig wasn’t sure what an Afro looked like. He brought back Jheri curls instead, and Jackon found it so hysterical that he made sure the signature wig remained in the film.

Pulp Fiction/Miramax

Harrison Ford: The Death Of Han Solo

Han Solo’s death in The Force Awakens was no big surprise for Harrison Ford. He had been advocating for the character’s downfall for over 30 years. Ford didn’t want Solo to die simply so he could get out of the franchise. He believed that in order for the other characters to develop (and Solo to reach the peak of his character arc) a noble, epic death was necessary.

Ben Affleck: Refusing A Yankees Hat For Gone Girl

If you didn’t think that a film shoot could shut down for four days over a Yankees cap, guess again. While the Gone Girl script called for Affleck’s character to wear a Yankees hat, Affleck refused to succumb to the humiliation of letting down his team: the Red Sox. After bickering for several days with the director, Affleck finally convinced him that a Mets cap would do the trick.
