Directed by Jon Favreau, the film will follow the original Lion King plot. However, we’ll get a whole new cast of voice actors for the characters and a more realistic look at Mufasa’s kingdom.

He Lives In You

The star-studded voice cast includes Donald Glover (Simba), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Beyonce Knowles-Carter (Nala), Keegan-Michael Key (Banzai), Alfre Woodard (Sarabi), and Billy Eichner (Timon). “It is a director’s dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life,” Favreau said in a statement after the casting announcement in November 2017.

The only returning cast member from the original 1994 film is James Earl Jones, whose voiceover work as Mufasa simply can’t be duplicated. In fact, his booming voice is heard throughout the teaser trailer.

Be Prepared

When it was announced that The Lion King would be released in summer 2019, fans waited patiently for any first looks at what the film would offer. The teaser trailer was released online on November 22, 2018 (Thanksgiving Day), and the internet went crazy. With 224.6 million views across the globe in one day, the teaser trailer became the Disney’s most-viewed trailer in its first 24 hours.
