Everyone seems to want more from this series, leading to lots of press coverage and behind-the-scenes footage on social media to tide us over between episodes. Below, we have five Easter eggs from the series that even regular viewers probably never picked up on.

’36’ Was The Original Name For The Show

People

At the beginning of season 1, the triplets were all shown celebrating their 36th birthdays. There’s actually a reason for this — the show was originally going to be called 36. However, most of the production team didn’t like the show name, so in the editing stage, creator Dan Fogelman came up with This is Us and the rest is history. Unbeknownst the viewers, while the triplets were turning 36, their mom was turning 33…

Mandy Moore Is The Youngest Main Cast Member

US Magazine

The primary cast consists of parents Rebecca and Jack, along with twins Kevin and Kate, and their adopted son Randall. Mandy Moore plays the role of matriarch Rebecca. However, Mandy is actually the youngest of all the main cast members at only 33. In the modern day scenes, 33-year-old Mandy is playing mom to 41-year-old Randall and Kevin! The magic of show business also came in handy when Milo Ventimiglia was confronted by his old movie dad on set…

The Sylvester Stallone Plotline

In the second season, Sylvester Stallone has a small role playing himself. In one of Sly’s scenes, daughter Kate tells him that her dad was a huge fan and has seen every Rocky movie. Fans of Rocky movies loved this, because Milo Ventimiglia, who plays the dad on This is Us, played Rocky’s son in the film Rocky Balboa. While they kept Milo’s real life out of that scenario, some actors have their storylines mirror their own lives…

Some Story Lines Are Based On The Actors

The Hollywood Reporter

Kate, played by actress Chrissy Metz, has a lot of struggles on the show. From managing her weight to her relationship with Toby, and struggling career… many of Kate’s scenes aren’t very happy. However, viewers of the show know just how much Kate lights up when she is performing on stage. The storyline of Kate being a singer was written into the show after the creators realized Chrissy Metz loved to sing herself. It’s nice when life imitates art! Or is it the other way around?

The House Kate Lives In Is Sitcom Famous

CNN

In several This is Us episodes, they flash the outside of Kate’s house before cameras show the inside. Sitcom fans may have noticed that her house looks eerily similar to one on another show. That’s because Kate’s house is actually the same one that they use for Mitch and Cam on Modern Family. Don’t expect a crossover anytime soon, though!
