Terry Crews Says He Dropped “Expendables 4” After Pressure To Drop Lawsuit

Terry Crews has been making headlines this week after letting slip that he would no longer be appearing in The Expendables franchise. While testifying before the US Senate Judiciary Committee, Crews explained that he made the decision after a producer on the film had pressured him to drop his sexual assault case against agent Adam Venit.

A Hostile Workplace Environment

“I’ve done three movies called The Expendables with Sylvester Stallone. The producer of that film called my manager and asked him to drop my case in order for me to be in the fourth installment of the movie, and if I didn’t there would be trouble,” Terry Crews told the legislators.

The Hill

The actor is suing Venit and the agency he works for over allegations that Venit groped him at a party in 2016. Crews spoke candidly about the incident and subsequent efforts to shut down his lawsuit, ultimately using his story as an example of the way those in power can perpetuate an abusive workplace culture.

Terry Takes A Stand

“This same producer is under his own sexual assault investigation, and abusers protect abusers,” he continued. “And this is one thing I had to decide… Am I going to be a part of this or am I going to take a stand? And there are projects I had to turn down.”

The Mary Sue

Both Venit and The Expendables producer, Avi Lerner, have yet to comment on this testimony, though they have denied the allegations of sexual misconduct against them in the past.

Times Are Changing

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star has said the wave of survivors coming forward throughout the #MeToo movement inspired him to come forward in hopes of changing the way sexual violence is handled in this country.

CNN

Crews explained the significance of calling attention to the issue. “When you look at the culture with men not holding other men accountable, it turns into something that no one wants. A community that totally looks the other way while men, women, and children are being raped.”
