US Airforce Senior Airman Emily Leehan wed Marine Sergeant Joshua Newville in an intimate ceremony recently but it was no typical wedding. During the ceremony, when the bride exchanged vows with her new husband, Emily wrote an extra vow dedicated to her new stepson, Joshua’s four-year-old son Gage.

All who attended the wedding were deeply moved when the bride started reading the vow but no one was more touched than Gage himself, who shed emotional tears while listening to his new stepmother read her beautiful lines.

In a video posted by “Inside Edition”, Gage started crying while hugging Emily as soon as she said: “I want you to be safe and to try your hardest and to be a good person.”

In response to Gage’s unexpected reaction, the bride said, “Don’t cry, baby.”

But Gage couldn’t stop himself from bawling so it was his dad’s turn to comfort him.

“You are so extremely smart, handsome, and kind to others. You have helped shaped me into the woman that I am today and I may not have given you the gift of life, but life surely gave me the gift of you,” continued Emily.

“I know that you and I will butt heads but I hope with all my heart that as you become a grown man you will understand my methods and realize I have only done what is best for you and that I love you,” she ended.

In an interview, Emily said that “It is important to say vows to him [Gage] as it was to say them to Josh.”

Emily’s heartwarming gesture also spoke to those in blended families.

“It’s just been really an awesome experience to show the world how a blended family can work and how you can make it a positive thing for your child,” Emily said.
