‘Star Wars’ Spinoffs Being Delayed Due To Solo’s Box Office Performance?

Published

on

When Solo: A Star Wars Movie was released, there were high hopes of it becoming a hit. Instead, it failed to match up to expectations. Because of the film’s lukewarm reaction, one rumor has been circulating.

I Find Your Lack Of Faith Disturbing

All future Star Wars spinoff movies are rumored to be on hold for now. The aforementioned Solo film brought in around $356 million since its release. In order for the film to break even, it needs to make $500 million. One major problem surrounding the film involved a majority of it being reshot by Ron Howard.

Lucasfilm

Rogue One, which is the first Star Wars spinoff, became a box office juggernaut with over $1 billion made. The film gained praise from critics and received two Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Mixing. Rogue One stands as the third highest grossing Star Wars film of all time.

Never Tell Me The Odds

There’s a great chance these rumors are just that. Speaking to TMZ, Howard doesn’t buy them at all. “I don’t think that’s entirely accurate. I think that was reported, but I don’t think that’s exactly what I understand. Yeah, and I think the fans — look, everybody at Lucasfilm and Disney really cares about the fans,” he said.

Howard landed the position of Solo director after Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were removed for creative differences.

Concluding The Trilogy

One thing is certain in the Star Wars universe: Star Wars: Episode IX will definitely be released on December 20, 2019. This will be the second Star Wars film for director J. J. Abrams, who joined the franchise with The Force Awakens. Joining him as co-writer is Chris Terrio, who won an Oscar for his work in Argo.

The forthcoming film will also be the final Star Wars film for composer John Williams. He’s provided music for the franchise since A New Hope.
