The One Stan Lee Cameo The Marvel Icon Says He Hated

As the Marvel universe has exploded in popularity in the past decade, so has one of the fictional universe’s primary architects: Stan Lee. Lee, now 95, has experienced his world come to life in a way that creators rarely do. Not only that, he’s also been incorporated into his universe personally. Whenever you go see a Marvel movie, you can be sure of at least one thing — you’ll spot Stan Lee somewhere. A while ago, Lee spoke about his cameos, including the one he says made him “damn mad.”

The Everywhere Man

Lee has appeared in over 30 Marvel shows and movies. The trend began back in 1989 when he played a jury foreman in The Trial of The Incredible Hulk and increased along with the superhero genre in the 2000s. Lee has played everything from a Smithsonian guard to an astronaut to Larry King. Even with this long history to select from, Lee has managed to pick out a favorite.

The Cameo That Lee Wants Directors To Take Note Of

Lee’s favorite cameo happened in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. In an interview with The Tomorrow Show, Lee explained that he loved his cameo as a veteran attempting to out-drink Thor because it was the first time a director gave him two scenes. At the other end of the spectrum, Stan has a cameo that he wasn’t exactly crazy about.

Looking Up And Saying ‘Ooh’

Lee jokingly said that his cameo in the original Spider-Man film was his least favorite. Speaking on the scene where he played a bystander caught in the action, Lee said, “Everybody is looking up going ‘ooh,’ and I’m one of the guys looking up going ‘ooh’ …for one second. And I resented that, because it didn’t give me a chance to show the full power of all my acting.” But this has nothing on the cameo that Lee jokes made him “damn mad.”

DJ Stan Lee’s Surprising Complaint

In 2016’s Deadpool, Lee showed up in his most ridiculous cameo to date, playing a DJ in a strip club. Lee’s problem with the scene? “I was not in the topless dancing place. I did that in a studio, and then they put it into the movie, and I’m damn mad about that!”

Looking For Stan Lee

Lee’s cameos don’t appear to be ending anytime soon. Lee revealed that several of his cameos were filmed at one time, ensuring more memorable appearances in the future. When people head in to see Black Panther, it’s pretty safe to say that they’ll be looking for Stan Lee like a red-and-white striped sweater in a Where’s Waldo picture.
