Why That Scene From ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Is So Significant

Published

on

The Jurassic Park series has proven to be one of the most successful action movie franchises in history. However, fans didn’t expect the latest Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom to contain so many emotional highs and lows. One of the final scenes in the movie really surprised and made an impact on loyal fans.

The Brachiosaurus Scene

The Brachiosaurus scene in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is traumatizing many fans. The scene shows Owen (Chris Pratt), Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), and Franklin (Justice Smith), escaping Isla Nublar by boat as a volcanic eruption destroys the island. The trio looks back, and as they ride away to safety they see a familiar creature – the gentle, herbivorous Brachiosaurus. They watch the helpless dinosaur as it screeches in fear, unable to escape as flames engulf its home.

What’s The Big Deal With Brachiosaurus?

For most viewers, this scene is pretty emotional, to say the least. But true franchise fans know the greater significance behind this scene. The Brachiosaurus was the first dinosaur to appear onscreen in the first Jurassic Park. Brachiosaurus has been a dino-fan favorite since the series began. Many fans found this scene heartbreaking, yet they conceded that it did provide a sense of closure to the series.

Thoughts From The Director

Fans weren’t the only ones who found closure in this dramatic, emotional moment of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Director L.A. Bayona said about the scene, “[it] represents the ending of a dream that started 25 years ago. You are telling the ending of that island and the ending of that dream.” They played a somber version of the Jurassic Park theme music during the moment to make that message even more clear.

Reactions From Fans

Many fans found this scene to be especially hard, even though the rest of the film was packed with emotional moments. Even Bayona and the film’s stars were surprised that fans had such a strong reaction. Soon after the movie premiere, Twitter brewed up a storm of Jurassic fans who had a divided reaction to the scene.

Will There Be A Jurassic World Trilogy?

Just like Jurassic Park had its own trilogy, Bayona, and co-writer Colin Trevorrow plan to release a third Jurassic World in the summer of 2021. The co-writers and directors are excited to share more about the third movie’s plot, which they say they have already written, and it’s ready for production. Hopefully, the final movie of the trilogy will live up to its predecessor in depth, dimension, and emotion.
