Pregnant Woman Hit By a Lightning Delivers Healthy Baby Boy
On June 29, Meghan Davidson was taking a simple stroll when the unthinkable happened: she was struck by lightning. Making things worse was that she was pregnant and was forced to have emergency cesarean to save her unborn baby. Davidson, who was in the late term of her pregnancy was walking alone just near their family home when the incident took place.
According to WRKO radio station, Davidson, “who was in her third trimester, was taken to a local hospital where, Owen (the baby) was delivered via C-section.” Her husband did not mention how the baby was doing but said that the newborn would still be hospitalized for observation.
The mother however, is “doing a lot better” as mentioned by husband. He also added: “It’s just a waiting game at the moment.” referring to how the child is responding to medical procedures being done.
When Meghan was struck by a lightning, her mother was inside the house watching her other children. A neighbor called 911 to report that the pregnant mother was struck and that based on his observations during the incident, the weather was “a little cloudy” with no indication whether there was going to be lightning or thunder.
The neighbor went on and added that “all of a sudden there was a flash of lightning” which startled his son.
Being hit by a lightning is a rare event and what makes Davidson’s case extremely unusual is the fact that she was pregnant at the same time.
ABC News, interviewed emergency physician Dr. Robert Glatter, from Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. He said “It’s pretty rare to get struck in general and for a pregnant woman it’s even less common. “
The physician did was not involved during the victim’s care but said that “If they didn’t have a stillbirth, that’s quite a miracle.”
