Heavily Pregnant Natalie Portman Won’t Grace the Academy Awards

If you were looking forward to Natalie Portman showing up on the red carpet at the Oscars with a snug maternity fit, then you will be a little disappointed. The actress has put out a statement to the effect that she won’t be able to show up, and this is due to the fact that she is currently pregnant. She is in fact in the third trimester of her pregnancy-her second one with husband Benjamin Millepied. Their first child, Aleph, is now five years old and ready for a sibling, if the rumor mill is anything to go by. It was first known in the media that Natalie Portman was expecting in September of last year.

Portman emphasized that while she could not attend, she wished her fellow actors a great night out there and praised them for being part of her life. The 35-year-old and her husband tend to shun the limelight, which might be the reason they moved their family to France. The coming of their next child is expected to be a feisty affair, especially after the actress earlier on suggested that life with her husband and child was amazing, and that she had close friends to turn to when things got stressful along the way.

Natalie Portman has a close relationship with the Oscars. She scooped one in 2011 for her hit movie, Black Swan. In 2004, she was nominated for an award in Closer. She is currently nominated as Best Actress for the part she played in Jackie, and it would be a great gift to her unborn child if she won this in absentia. Fans will find it interesting that when the actress accepted her Oscar in 2011, she did s while carrying Aleph. In her speech, she thanked her husband for giving her ‘the best role in her life.’ If she takes this other, then she will have celebrated the birth of her two children in advance, with each coming after an Oscar.

The Jackie actress has never been a fan of choosing the spotlight over her family, and has always felt that there is a delicate balance between the professional persona and the family woman. While talking to Harper’s Bazaar in 2015, she mused that women as well as men feel the strain of balancing between their families and their careers. She told the publication that when things became tough along the road, she reached out to close friend and confidante Cate Blanchett for advice and guidance.
