Patrick Stewart is ready to return to space— the final frontier. He’s suiting up in his space gear and will boldly go where no one has gone before in a Star Trek: The Next Generation reboot. Here’s everything you need to know about your favorite Captain returning to the screen.

The Original Series

For seven years, Stewart won viewers’ hearts as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. He led the Enterprise in wild space adventures, but everyone knew they were in good hands as long as Picard was around.

Recently, it was announced at a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas that Stewart was returning to the role in an upcoming CBS All Access reboot. When the news broke, fans both at the convention and on social media immediately shared their excitement. Luckily, Stewart looks the same as he did in 1987, so it’ll be easy for him to return as the beloved character.

A Brand-New Take

The new series isn’t exactly a revival or reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The upcoming series won’t pick up where we left off in 1994. Instead, it will discuss an entirely new chapter of Picard’s life. If you love learning the backstory behind your favorite characters, this is the next television series you need to watch.

Tail Slate

Screenwriter Alex Kurtzman announced the show at the Las Vegas convention. He commented, “With overwhelming joy, it’s a privilege to welcome Sir Patrick Stewart back to the Star Trek fold. For over 20 years, fans have hoped for the return of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and that day is finally here. We can’t wait to forge new ground, surprise people, and honor generations both new and old.”

Stewart’s Excited, Too

Don’t worry. Stewart is excited to return to his iconic character! He made a surprise appearance at the convention to help make the announcement. He emphasized he was finally ready to return to the character after 24 years.

Punch Drunk Critics

He commented, “It is an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions with him. Seeking out new life for him, when I thought that life was over.”
