When Olivia Colman was revealed to play Queen Elizabeth II on The Crown, fans were a bit skeptical. Filming for the series is currently underway, and the producers wanted to give fans a glimpse of her transformation.

God Save The Queen

Netflix released the very first photo of Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, with the caption “Patience.” Over on Twitter, fans are going insane about her look.

Netflix

“Colman has huge shoes to fill, but as proven time and time again, Olivia is incredible in her own right,” a Twitter user said. “Such a dazzling performer in all her roles so am chomping at the bit to see her as Liz,” said another Twitter user. Colman has earned numerous awards for her work in The Night Manager, Broadchurch, and Tyrannosaur.

Same Roles, Different Faces

Olivia Colman is replacing Claire Foy, who played Queen Elizabeth II in the show’s first two seasons. Foy isn’t the only person being replaced on the show. All of the roles for the show are being recast for the third season. Creator Peter Morgan stated that this decision is best for keeping things fresh.

Netflix

“You can’t ask someone to act middle-aged. Someone has to bring their own fatigue to it. The feelings we all have as 50-year-olds are different than the feelings we all have as 30-year-olds,” he told The Independent.

Chasing The Crown

The third and fourth season of The Crown are being filmed back to back right now. Season three is slated to be released in 2019 with season four coming out the following year.

Netflix

Since its debut in 2016, The Crown has earned Netflix a plethora of accolades, including a Supporting Actor Emmy win. The series was recently nominated for 13 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Claire Foy.
