The ‘New’ Oldest Lady in the World Turned 117 Yesterday
Yesterday, the world received a sad news about the departure of the oldest woman in the world, Emma Morano who died at the age of 117. And yesterday was also the 117th birthday of the ‘new’ oldest lady who lives in Jamaica and is only four months younger than Morano. Meet Violet Mosses Brown.
Violet Brown was born on March 10, 1900, back when her home country, Jamaica, still belongs to the British Empire. This makes Brown the last living subject of Queen Victoria.
Violet Mosses Brown, better known by her kin as ‘Aunt V’ follows a different diet, which kept her to live longer. She loves mangoes, oranges, potatoes, breadfruit, and would sometimes meal over a fish and cow foot. Mrs. Brown doesn’t like consuming pork or chicken, though.
And like Brown, Emma Morano also consumed a speck of food in a day. She would munch over minced meat and would only drink milk for supper. Part of her diet was to eat 500 grams of Gianduiotti per week and honey served in glasses. During her later years, she only consumes three eggs a day – one is boiled and the other two are eaten raw.
On Mrs. Brown’s 117th birthday yesterday, she was visited by Jamaica’s Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen to celebrate her being a centenarian. “I had to take a few minutes from the office to be a part of this significant event. I just wanted to come and see you, to praise you for your contribution to the society and Jamaica on the whole,” Sir Patrick Allen told Mrs. Brown.
The Browns are known for their ability to live longer. Mrs. Brown’s mother lived till 91 and one of her sisters reached the age of 102. On the other hand, her son, Harland Fairweather is in the Guinness Book of Records being the oldest child in the world who is now 96 years old.
