Atlanta Hawks CEO to Pay for Wedding of Couple Who Met at Basketball Game
In 2015, the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks hosted a Swipe Right Night event at one of their home games where fans could use the Tinder app inside the arena and receive special privileges and meet up with matches at that time. While a number of people met at that time, one couple stood out among them – Ben McClesky and Avery Armstrong. The couple met during the event and continued dating ever since.
Ben, through his Twitter account, documented the progress of their relationship and kept Atlanta Hawks updated.
“Huge S/O to @ATLHawks & @Tinder for the date night. I’m so glad my 393rd match @averylarmstrong came to the game with me!” reads Ben’s post on the event.
The couple even went back to watch the playoffs a couple of months after their first meeting. Ben tweeted: “S/O @ATLHawks my match @averylarmstrong from tinder night (1st date) & I r back 4 da playoffs!”
Ben and Avery even went back to participate in the “Swipe Right Night 2.0” event and their Twitter posts about their story caught the attention of the Hawk’s CEO Steve Koonin.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Koonin was delighted to know about how the team’s event impacted the lives of their fans that he made the couple a generous offer. The CEO promised to host and pay for the wedding if the pair ever decided to get married. “My treat,” said Koonin.
Avery and Ben apparently had a baby and in a Twitter post early this month, asked Koonin if he still intends to make good on his promise, tweeting: “Hey #ATLHawks remember when you said you’d pay for mine + @BMccleskeyNRP wedding? Well the 3 of us are ready-we hope the offer still stands!”
The NBA reported Koonin’s fantastic response: “Avery and Ben: We are super excited for how your relationship has grown since you met at our first Swipe Right Night and I will absolutely make good on my promise for the Hawks to host your wedding. We can’t wait to start making plans and meet your new little one.”
