‘Morbius’ Is Next In Line For Sony’s Universe Of Marvel Characters

When it comes to Marvel properties, Sony will be busy over the next few years. One property in question has left fans intrigued upon its announcement. Luckily, some new details about this soon to be blockbuster has been released to the public.

Lights, Camera, Action

After the release of Venom, the studio has announced that Morbius will be the next film in production.  Venom producer Matt Tolmach told ComicBook.com that they’re currently working on the movie now. “We’re obviously working on Morbius now. That’s sort of next up for us,” he said.

Christopher Polk

The film is being written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who are showrunners for Netflix’s Lost In Space. Daniel Espinosa, who directed Safe House and Child 44, will direct this film.

Vampires Will Never Hurt You

Starring Jared Leto in the title role, Morbius will follow the trials and tribulations of Michael Morbius. The scientist becomes a vampire after a freak accident goes wrong. With his new powers, he turns into a vigilante that takes down various criminals.

Aside from Morbius, Martine Bancroft is being rumored to appear in the film. In the comics, Bancroft is his ex-fiancee that would later get murdered by Doctor Langford. Emil Nikos is also slated to show up. Nikos was Morbius’ best friend until he became his first victim as a vampire. There’s no word on who will take these roles yet. Filming is slated to begin sometime in November.

Another Universe Arrives

Morbius is rumored to be released sometime in 2020. This will be the second film in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters franchise. Other films in the works include Black Cat, Silver Sable, and Nightwatch.

Bryan Bedder

For Leto, the actor is currently involved with two films featuring The Joker. He’s also rumored to appear in Tron 3.
