Parenting is never easy especially, if you are a mother to an 18-year-old girl, which is why Heather Steinkopf discovered a unique way of making sure that her daughter, Kaelyn Demmon, will never lie when asked about her whereabouts by using selfies.
Kaelyn tweeted screen shots of her text message exchanges with her mom when she was at her best friend’s house watching a movie. The caption read: “I think it’s safe to say my mom doesn’t trust me.”
In the first frame, Kaelyn’s mom texted: “Send a self of the two of you both giving me the thumbs up!” after she told her that she was with her best friend Stevie.
After Kaelyn and Stevie took and sent the picture Heather wanted, the mom was still not satisfied and asked for another shot, this time “with the light on”.
The pair once again complied but Heather apparently needed more photographic evidence. She again asked Kaelyn to stand on Stevie’s back and “take another selfie with the thumbs up.”
Kaelyn finally passed the inspection after sending what her mom wanted.
The exchanges may seem obsessive to a lot of people but in an interview with BuzzFeed News, Heather admitted that she knew Kaelyn was telling the truth based on the first photo but she wanted to be amused.
“I knew she was where she said she was but it was more fun to keep her doing different things,” said Heather.
The 18-year-old appeared to be unbothered by her mom’s tactics but she confessed that this strategy actually got her into trouble before because she was caught lying.
“There’ve been times when I’ve said I’m at Stevie’s when I’m at a bonfire or something,” said Kaelyn.
Kaeyln’s tweet about her mom has gone viral, causing much debate about parenting and how much freedom teenagers should have.
