Man Gets Solidarity Tattoo with his Dog, But Might Regret It Now

Good intentions sometimes lead to bad ideas, like, for example, when a child tries to help clear the table and ends up breaking all the dishes, or when a grown up man gets a solidarity tattoo with his dog without knowing its real and embarrassing meaning.

Chris Mendiola tried to build up the confidence of his adopted dog with a sweet gesture, but soon after and a little too late, he found out that his efforts were more than just slightly misguided…

A Man’s Best Friend

There’s very little a man won’t do for his canine best friend. And indeed, Chris was willing to go all the way for his adopted rescue pup, Bear.

When he discovered that Bear had a tattoo of a mysterious symbol on his underbelly, he figured that the previous owners must have cruelly done it as a sick joke. So, as a gesture of his love and support of his dog, Chris decided to get a matching tattoo on his inner bicep.

“For those of you who know Bear, know that he has a tattoo given to him from some previous owners,”  Chris wrote in the Facebook caption of his photos, “It sickens me to know that people actually tattoo their pets. So, tonight I got his tattoo.”

What could be sweeter than this dog lover’s show of support for his BFF, Bear? Not much. But, sweet as the gesture might have been, it turned out to be a big mistake. As Chris soon found out, he should have  done some research on what the symbol actually meant before going ahead and getting it tattooed on his arm. Once the story was posted, commenters were quick to point out what that symbol actually meant…

“Are You Neutered Too?”

Shortly after posting the pictures, Chris received some shocking, albeit slightly hilarious, comments from his friends: “That means he’s neutered! My rescue female has one too!!” one friend posted. Another asked, “Are you neutered too?”

Big Mistake, Bigger Heart

Chris was quick to defend himself, claiming that he knew what the symbol meant all along and that he was simply protesting the tattooing of animals.

Whether or not Chris actually knew what it meant doesn’t matter much. Clearly, the man loves his pooch dearly, and we can get on-board with that, even if we think his tattoo is just completely hilarious…
