Major News Networks Refuse to Air Trump Ad

It is no secret that President Donald Trump has a rocky relationship with the press. He has been very vocal about calling news that he does not like “fake news.” Last week on an interview with John Dickerson from CBS News’ Face the Nation, Trump told Dickerson that he calls the show “Deface the Nation.”

The Trump campaign for 2020 upped the ante last week when they put out an ad that listed his accomplishments over the first 100 days of his presidency. In the ad, a graphic showing several journalists such as Rachel Maddow, World Blitzer, Andrea Mitchell, George Stephanopoulos and Scott Pelley has the words, “Fake News” superimposed.

CBS, NBC, ABC and CNN Have All Joined the Boycott of Trump Ad

Both Trump’s comments that the news organizations have refused to cover his first 100 days responsibly and honestly have resulted in at least four networks — CBS News, ABC News, NBC News and CNN making the decision to not air the controversial ad. FOX News and FOX Business News will air the ad. This decision came the same week that the White House directed several agencies to only air FOX News.

Some agencies such as CNN and NBC have said they object to the depiction of their work. ABC News took it a step further by saying the ad is a “personal attack” on the news agency. The ad is about 30 seconds long.

This marks the first ad of the 2020 campaign and is not the only campaign activity that is going on. Trump’s shop has also started wooing high level donors and raising money for the next presidential campaign. This is one of the earliest starts to a presidential campaign in history.
