Maisie Williams, the actress known for her role as Arya Stark in the globally-popular television series “Games of Thrones”, is set to join her on-screen sister Sophie Turner, a.k.a. Sansa Stark, in the much-anticipated X-Men movie, “New Mutants”.
Vanity Fair reported that both Williams and Turner will be joined by Anya Taylor-Joy in the “New Mutants” film, which is the adaptation of the first X-Men comics. Unlike previous X-Men films, “New Mutants” will concentrate on the “angst-driven” adventures of a group of teenage mutants.
Turner already joined the X-Men franchise last year when she appeared as telepath Jean Grey in “X-Men: Apocalypse”. Williams is set to play Wolfsbane in the upcoming X-Men movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Williams’ character is a Scottish girl struggling to reconcile her religious beliefs with her power to turn into a wolf.
According to the BBC, the writer and director of the movie, Josh Boone, has been eyeing Williams since last year but only confirmed the casting after they received an official green light to make the movie this year.
It is fortunate for the franchise as well that Fox is making serious efforts to find ethnically appropriate actors for the movie. Hollywood Reporter even spilled that the film producers are conducting wide searches for a Native American to play Moonstar and a South American for Sunspot.
It may be a far stretch but fans of “Games of Thrones” will be excitedly anticipating if Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Isaac Hempstead Wright, and Art Parkinson will eventually find their way to the X-Men franchise in the future.
The film is scheduled to be released on April 13, 2018, and was said to be “very loyal” to its source material, which is awesome news for X-Men comics followers all over the world.
