The DC Extended Universe has been one full of twists and turns as of late. One major speed bump involves Ben Affleck possibly leaving his role of Batman behind. Fortunately, one Emmy nominated star is up to throw on the Batsuit.

The Hero Gotham Deserves

Jon Hamm appeared on In Depth with Graham Bensinger to talk about his love for Batman. “I am a huge comic book fan, always have been. I’ve read comic books since I was 9 or younger. And I’m pretty knowledgeable about a lot of them,” he said.

When it comes to portraying the iconic character on screen, Hamm would do the role on one condition. “It depends on the script, what the story is,” he said.

A Long Connection

The Hamm/Batman story isn’t news for anyone that’s been following comic book movies. The Mad Men star was rumored to be in line to portray the character over a decade ago. Recently, his name was brought up to take over Affleck’s spot. A unnamed individual spoke to Radar Online back in December about this situation.

“Ben’s not officially out of the role yet, but the writing’s on the wall, and Jon’s desperate for the gig—friend or not,” they said. Affleck and Hamm worked together on the 2010 film The Town.

I Am Vengeance

Hamm will be making his proper comic book film debut as Mister Sinister in The New Mutants. That film is slated to be released on August 2, 2019. This isn’t Hamm’s first run with Marvel. He recently lent his voice as the narrator in FX’s Legion.

Batman is slated to return in The Batman, which is being directed by Matt Reeves. With no actual release date planned, it might take a while longer to see if either Affleck, Hamm, or another actor will take the role.
