Jim Parsons Opens Up About Possibly Saying Goodbye To The Big Bang Theory

Published

on

Jim Parsons is probably best known for his breakthrough role as Sheldon Cooper on the hit sitcom, The Big Bang Theory. However, even the best things must eventually come to an end. Jim himself has reflected on the end of the show that changed his life. However, he still has some pretty big plans and projects in the works to continue his acting career.

Saying Goodbye?

It’s been rumored that the Big Bang Theory’s final season could be its upcoming 12th season. The idea is something that Jim has contemplated often, admitting that it’s something scary but exciting at the same time. “Whenever it does end, I’m certainly in for some level of rude awakening,” he stated in an interview. “You don’t do something for 10-plus years on a continuum like this and not get cold water in the face whenever that ends.”

However, he is ultimately happy with how Sheldon’s character has progressed since the show’s premiere in 2007. Not only has the show been kept on the air for that long, but it was allowed to develop Sheldon and the other characters’ storylines in full. So, Jim is very proud to be a part of that. Nevertheless, the actor has continued to create a name for himself outside of the show as well.

A New Film

Even with Big Bang Theory, Jim has had his share of projects outside of the popular show. Over the years, he’s had roles in films like Home, Vision, and Hidden Figures, as well as appearances in other TV shows. So, his resume is already pretty stacked with close to 25 years of work.

Jim’s latest project is a dramatic film, A Kid Like Jake, adapted from a play by Daniel Pearle of the same name. The film zeroes in on a young boy named Jake who is comfortable in experimenting with standard female wardrobe and toys. Jim and Claire Danes play his parents, who struggle to adapt to and agree on their child’s gender-fluid life. In addition to this interesting role, Jim also has plans to head back to where he first got his start in acting: the stage.

Broadway Dreams

Jim actually began acting in theater productions in the 1990s. Throughout his career, he’s appeared in many plays like Guys and Dolls, Othello, and his 2011 Broadway debut, The Normal Heart. In fact, he credits his work in theater for helping him become the actor he is today.

Now, the actor is heading back to Broadway for his new role in The Boys In The Band, which was revived on for its 50th anniversary. The play is about a group of gay men who join up for a birthday party in NYC and is respected for highlighting gay life. For Jim, who’s playing Michael, it’s a great project to get to be a part of, especially as a proud gay man himself. “I will say that being a part of it, it does add a certain something,” he revealed in an interview. “I don’t even know what to call it: a sense of pride, a sense of gratitude. It’s definitely a tribal feeling to be a part of this.”

With these new opportunities and more on the way, Jim Parsons is continuing to solidify his name and work in the entertainment world. Even when The Big Bang Theory eventually ends, he’ll still be out here doing great things.
