Jeremy Renner Teases Hawkeye’s Return In ‘Avengers 4’

Published

on

Though his role in the Avengers as a human surrounded by superheroes is often joked about, Hawkeye’s absence from 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War was lamented by fans everywhere. Jeremy Renner’s archer character Clint Barton played minor roles in Thor and Captain America: Civil War with a more central part in both The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and despite being missing in Infinity War, Renner has teased his character’s return for the yet-untitled Avengers 4.

Out Of Retirement

It was revealed in Civil War that Barton had decided to retire from his saving-the-world job and spend more time with his secret family on their farm. After Captain America called him to help out leading to his arrest, a line in Infinity War confirmed that he returned to his family under house arrest rather than go on the run with the other heroes.

Hawkeye’s confirmed presence in Avengers 4 suggests that he is once again out of retirement and helping his superhero buddies undo the damage done by Thanos.

The Long Game

Whether Hawkeye will have another minor or more central role in the upcoming film remains to be seen, but the Russo brothers—who directed Infinity War and will direct Avengers 4—said back before Infinity War even came out that they “cooked up a story for him that is a little bit of a long play. Not a short play.”

So whether Barton really is chilling on a farm with his wife and kids during the big battle with Thanos, or is on a secret mission—probably given to him by Nick Fury—most likely won’t be revealed until the final Avengers film comes out.

Good To Be Back

No matter the role he plays in the upcoming film, Renner’s excitement in his return to the team is echoed by all those fans who missed him in Infinity War.
