Jason Momoa Surprises Audiences By Returning As Khal Drogo On SNL

Jason Momoa is about to bring the character of Aquaman to the big screen again. However, before he could swim faster than a mako shark, Momoa portrayed the stoic Dothraki Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones. We caught up with Khal Drogo when he returned for an SNL sketch during Momoa’s gig as host.

Momoa Hosted SNL For The First Time

For his monologue, Momoa bounced on the stage in shiny pink pants, bare feet, tossing his trademark flowing hair, and greeted the audience with, “Aloha!” Mahalo.

He shared how it was so special to be hosting SNL, and he’d been a huge fan for a long time. He just felt so grateful for all the blessings like his “smokin’ hot wife, Lisa Bonet.” He was so overwhelmed that he had to remind himself not to cry … because then it would rain in Hawaii.

Khal Drogo’s Ghost Dojo

In one sketch, Kenan Thompson plays a talk show host on Khal Drogo’s Ghost Dojo, interviewing the recently and not so recently departed characters from Game of Thrones. Apparently speaking Dothraki is just like riding a bike as Momoa eased into Khal Drogo’s native tongue once again. Maybe it’s the eyeliner.

Brianne of Tar appears on the set, despite the fact she’s still alive on the show, and informs Khal Drogo, “You have a lot to learn about identity politics.”

A Visit From Some Other Dead Faves

Later in the sketch, Hodor appears, and Pete Davidson joins the chat as the High Sparrow. Kate McKinnon’s Joffrey is a delight. Also, we’re treated to a commercial for “beard twisties” and an ad suggesting you consider the Red Wedding venue for your special event.

Game of Thrones returns in April and fans are foaming at the mouth for spoilers. Unlikely Khal Drogo will reappear because  … he’s pretty dead. However, the character must be dear to Momoa’s heart as the host managed to revive the charismatic leader effortlessly for a fun sketch.
