Jamie Foxx Reportedly Receives Offer For ‘Spawn’ Reboot

Published

on

Another movie featuring everyone’s favorite Detroit-born CIA-agent-turned-superhero Spawn is in the works. There’s just one problem: they have yet to find someone to play the antihero. Spawn creator Todd McFarlane and casting director Terri Taylor have someone in mind, though: Jamie Foxx.

The Role

Al Simmons was a former Marine who went on to join the Secret Service, and then the CIA. Jason Wynn, his superior in the CIA, orders Simmons killed after Simmons begins asking too many questions about the assassinations he is ordered to carry out.

Simmons went to the afterlife, but let’s just say he didn’t go to Heaven. Due to all the assassinations he had carried out, he had to go somewhere a bit warmer. He sold his soul in exchange for a chance to go back to Earth to see his wife, but by the time he got back, five years had passed and she had remarried. Simmons, now Spawn, becomes a tough and nasty crimefighter.

Prior Experience

If Foxx agrees to play Spawn, it wouldn’t be the first time he has played someone given superpowers through an unfortunate set of circumstances. You may remember Mr. Foxx played Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

So he’s already played the villain. Perhaps he’d relish the opportunity to take on the role of Spawn. His fans would certainly get a kick out of seeing him in the film.

The Likelihood

So far, an offer has been extended to Foxx. That doesn’t mean he’ll take the role, however. But hey, we can certainly hope. Plus, there are reasons to believe he’d be interested.

BET

Back in 2013, Jamie Foxx said he was “aggressively pursuing” the role of Spawn. He would call McFarlane, and even visit his offices, asking about the status of a script. It sounds like he was pretty excited about the role in 2013. It stands to reason he’d still be interested now!
