Jackie Kennedy Followed An Exceptionally Restricted Diet, Ex-Assistant Claims
Kathy McKeon, Jackie Kennedy’s former live-in assistant revealed in a new book entitled, Jackie’s Girl, that the former first lady followed an exceptionally restricted diet. This revelation supports previously released profiles of Jackie Kennedy that stress her unbelievable obsession with weight.
McKeon shared that Jackie Kennedy’s diet was limited to one boiled egg and tea for breakfast; cottage cheese and a fruit for lunch; and poached chicken breast or fish and salad for dinner. She would also eat plain yogurt for dinner from time to time.
The DailyMail.com approximated the calorie content of the former first lady’s daily diet and it only amounted to about 600 calories a day. It is important to note that Jackie weighed 120 pounds and for a woman who is moderately active as she was, she should have been living on a 2,018 calorie diet a day. Needless to say, she was eating much, much less than what she needed.
While the former first lady’s daily calorie intake may come as a shock, her former assistant swears that she eats more than that.
McKeon shared that she often ran into Jackie in the kitchen in the middle of the night while all the lights were off. She even recounted one incident wherein she discovered the first lady eating ice cream straight from the container using, not a tiny bitty teaspoon, but a big spoon!
While there were incidences wherein the former first lady was eating happily, most people remember Jackie’s preoccupation in maintaining her 120-pound weight and watching the weight of others, especially her daughter Caroline. McKeon said that the first lady made sure that Caroline did not eat anything that is fattening.
Sadly, Jackie Kennedy’s preoccupation with weight ceased when she was stricken with cancer. In 2010, John Loring, who once worked with the first lady, shared with Harper’s Bazaar that Jackie Kennedy, who always carried carrot sticks in her purse, suddenly ate a variety of desserts when she would usually send them back. At this stage, the former first lady most likely knew that it no longer mattered.
