Is J.K. Rowling Turning Into George Lucas?

Published

on

Some say that fame can turn an artist’s original magic into mush. This may very well be the case with the most successful fantasy writer of the modern day, J.K. Rowling. In some cases, she can be seen as someone who is only willing to make a reboot of her original work which is seen commonly in another well-known and beloved franchise, Star Wars by George Lucas. Let’s take a look and see how these two artists compare.

Rowling Relishes Rehashing The Past

Like Lucas, Rowling has had a love affair with resurrecting characters and bringing them back. She has brought back old time favorites like Dumbledore in an effort to reel in existing fans along with the new fanbase.

Like Lucas, who often brings Darth Vader into the newer films as often as he can, Rowling doesn’t shy away from delighting her fanbase with easter eggs and cameos.

Rowling Follows The Path That Works

Rowling has shown that she has grown an avid fanbase, just like Lucas has, and therefore knows what works and what doesn’t. She brings back old magic from her Harry Potter universe and sets it in the world of Fantastic Beasts seamlessly.

She rewards the hardcore fans as much as she delights the new ones. Like Lucas, Rowling showers her fans with love in the new films as much as the old films.

Rowling Can Maintain Integrity

Rowling is no fool. She didn’t amass this crowd of followers overnight and she knows how to keep them hungry for more, just like Lucas. Like a professional artist, Rowling knows what her fans like and what will intrigue new fans in the future.

Finally, she is not afraid to break her old molds and try something new. She brings new magic and new characters that maintain the Harry Potter brand and therefore its integrity as a franchise.
