Brian Michael Bendis Unveils The Truth About Iron Man’s Father In His Final Marvel Comic

Published

Fans of comic books know how insane storylines can be sometimes. Some of the biggest storylines have lasted well over 20 years. One specific storyline involving an Avenger dropped quite a shocker. As expected, this will be filled with spoilers.

A Father’s Betrayal

In 2012, it was announced that Tony Stark was adopted as a kid. Aside from that, he learned that he has a half-brother named Arno. Howard and Maria Stark hiding this secret left him in a state of confusion. For years, he tried to find out the truth. In 2016, he discovered his real mother was named Amanda Armstrong, who was a touring pop star before joining SHIELD.

In Invincible Iron Man #600, Tony finds out the truth about his father. He discovers that his name is Jude and that he worked as a double agent for Hydra. Amanda was forced to kill him when she discovered his treacherous ways. This was done to prevent Tony from possibly joining Hydra.

A Surprise Return

Tony already knew his father was dead. The way he died, however, was a big shock. During Civil War II, he was originally told that Jude died as a SHIELD agent.

In the same issue, Jude somehow managed to escape death to continue his Hydra crusade. While Mary Jane Watson tried to take him out with a shot to the shoulder, Jude decided to take everyone on with a plethora of agents. Luckily, Iron Man shows up to save the day.

End Of An Era

Jude’s reveal in Invincible Iron Man #600 was important for another reason. This issue marked the official end of Brian Michael Bendis’ 20-year run with Marvel Comics. Fortunately, writer Dan Slott will continue the adventures with Tony Stark: Iron Man, which debuts on June 20.

Will Slott make Jude a more prominent villain in his run? At this point, only he knows the answer.
