For his next film, Idris Elba is about to go on a wild ride! The actor is reportedly in talks to join Hobbs and Shaw, the upcoming Fast and Furious spinoff starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham.

An Exciting New Twist

Universal Studios had long planned a spinoff highlighting Johnson’s popular character from the film, special agent Luke Hobbs. The spinoff will pair Hobbs with Statham’s character, criminal mastermind Deckard Shaw, on a new and challenging mission.

With the pair’s great chemistry in The Fate of the Furious, Johnson and Statham will undoubtedly deliver an action-packed film. David Leitch (Deadpool 2) is set to direct, with writer Chris Morgan developing the script.

Getting The Part

So where will Idris Elba fit in? The seasoned actor will play the main villain that Hobbs and Shaw will face off against. His character is named Null, described as a “mysterious international terrorist” from Britain.

Elba’s wrapping up final negotiations, but the role is pretty much in the bag for him. In fact, Johnson himself officially welcomed Elba to the cast on Twitter.  “He’s bad, but I’m dangerous,” Johnson shared. “Welcome my brotha @idriselba with tattooed and open arms to our #HobbsAndShaw Fast & Furious spinoff.” The actor added that he and Elba had wanted to work together for a long time, and now they have their chance. “Every great hero needs an even greater villain. Cue the music…I’ve been waiting…let’s dance,” Johnson tweeted.

Resident Bad Boy

Of course, Idris Elba is no stranger to playing the main antagonist in movie roles. Films like Star Trek Beyond, Beasts of No Nation, and even The Jungle Book have featured the actor as a villain. With that background, his new role is a perfect one for him.
