Woman Takes Hilarious Selfie While Sister Gives Birth in the Background
Giving birth can be a painful experience. The women, however, know from experience. So, Kay Armendariz, 27, decided to lighten the mood with a selfie while her sister, Kimberly Ramirez, 20, was giving birth in the background.
Armendariz, who is already a mother to two 8-year-olds, 4-year-old twins, and a 4-month-old baby, knew what her little sister was in for, and asked for permission to snap a photo.
“She wasn’t in too much pain at first, so she thought it was pretty funny,” Armendariz told Mashable. “I told her I was going to do it, she just started the oxytocin and the labor pains began almost instantly. She started to feel it and right when she was like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t take this,’ I took the photo.”
The now-viral selfie was taken at approximately 3:15 a.m. and posted to Imgur with a caption reading: “SELFIE! While my sister is about to shove a baby out of her vag!” (It’s her sister, so she can get away with saying that.) The post has since garnered over 580, 000 views and 1,000 comments.
After 15 hours of labor, Ramirez finally gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Zayden, on June 29 at Sierra Providence East Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. Her reaction in her big sister’s pic was in stark contrast to the maternity photos that she posed for just months earlier.
The elegant photographs were taken by none other than Armendariz, who is a photographer and social media specialist. She would later stay by her sister’s side through her first delivery.
Both sisters think it’s cool how everyone can share in on their experience. “When (Zayden) grows up, he’ll be able to see that his debut was wild,” Armendariz told TODAY.
