He’s Back! A New “Hellboy” Movie Is in the Works

If you are a fan of the devil with red skin who loves to smoke cigars, drink beer, keeps cats around and causes as much trouble as he can, you are going to be happy to hear that a Hellboy reboot is in the works. The only drawback may be that actor Ron Perlman will not be reprising the lead role. The new person to play the red bay boy is David Harbour of Stranger Things. The creator of the comic book series, Mike Mignola made the announcement of the new movie and new star in a tweet.

The New Film May Be Called “Hellboy: The Rise of the Blood Queen

The new installment of the Hellboy series is expected to come with an “R” rating and will be directed by Neil Marshall. Marshall is known for such work as Game of Thrones and The Descent. Marshall is taking over the directing role from Guillermo del Toro, who directed the other two movies. Currently, the title that they are working with for the new film is Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen but that can still change.

Producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin are currently in negotiations with Millennium to take on the project. Mike Richardson, from Dark Horse Entertainment, is also reported to be linked to the project as a producer. Mignola will take part in writing the new film and will be joined by Andrew Crosby and Christopher Golden.

This is the third installment of the series and if Millennium does indeed sign on, this will be the third production company to tackle the tale.

The first two movies were directed and written by del Toro and starred Perlman. The first Hellboy movie was released in 2004 and grossed $60 million in the United States and another $40 million overseas. These two films attracted a cult following.
