5 Game of Thrones Fan Theories You Need to Know Before Season 8

Published

on

Fans are chomping at the bit for the eighth and final season to premiere. With only six episodes left, there’s no telling how this legendary show will end for all in Westeros. However, loyal followers have plenty of ideas on how the final episodes will end, and about truths hidden among the characters we’ve loved over the years. These next five are some of our favorites. Warning, SPOILERS ahead!

The Valonquar Theory To End Cersei’s Reign

In the season five premiere, Cersei receives a prophecy that “another, younger, more beautiful [queen will come] to cast you down and take all you hold dear,” which she believes to be Margaery. However, the show left out the second part of the prophecy, which says: “The Valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.” “Valonqar” translates “little brother” in High Valyrian. The Valonquar could be Tyrion, the younger brother Cersei has hated throughout the show, or it could be her twin, Jaime.

Tyrion May Have Blood From Another Family

Tyrion Lannister has never fit in with his family, either in physique or personality. One fan theory suggests he may not actually be a Lannister, but a love child of Aerys Targaryen and Joanna Lannister. In the books, Aerys charms Joanna, so it’s not out of the question that they could have had a child together. Plus, his brown and white peppered hair is a trademark of the Targaryen line, not the Lannister family.

Samwell Tarly, The Great Storyteller

Samwell Tarly, the book-loving son of Lord Randyll Tarly, could be the real narrator of the entire series. Sam has always been the quiet bookworm, and George R.R. Martin has made direct comparisons between himself and Sam before. He said, “Tyrion might be who I want to be, but Sam is probably closer to who I actually am. The fat kid who likes to read books and doesn’t like to go up a lot of stairs.”

Daenerys And Jon Snow Will Have A Family In Season 8

In the season seven finale, Jon Snow tells Daenerys that the witch that killed Khal Drogo, her husband “might not have been the most reliable source of information.” Many believe this means Daenerys can have a child, despite the witch’s warning. In the finale’s final moments, Jon and Daenerys consummate their relationship while sailing North. Some fans believe this is hinting that they will have a child by the end of season eight.

Sansa Stark To Be The New Queen Of Westeros

Sansa Stark has done a complete 180 from her meek beginnings on the show to who she is now. Some fans even believe she could be next on the Iron Throne by the end of season eight. Right now Daenerys is on that track, but as Daario Naharis pointed out, Daenerys “wasn’t meant to sit in a chair.” Sophie Turner also said about her character in Season 8, “It’s the first time you ever see her like that, and it’s so amazing to see her like that — kind of owning her destiny.”
