Netflix fans, rejoice! The End of the F***ing World has been renewed for a second season. The Emmy-nominated drama, which debuted earlier this year, captivated fans. Now they can rest easy knowing that one of their favorites will be back.

Hard Hitting Performances and Touchy Subjects

The End of the F***ing World took the world by storm when it appeared on Netflix in January. Combining a longing protagonist with a lost teen proved difficult, but directors Jonathan Entwistle and Lucy Tcherniak pulled it off.

Thankfully, the new season will hone in on stars Alex Lawther as James and Jessica Barden as Alyssa. Their characters, both outsiders, touched on many perceived flaws in an endearing manner. The show also had audiences clamoring for more of Charlie Covell’s writing.

Everyone is Excited About Season 2

The show’s production company, Channel 4, announced the renewal ahead of the Edinburgh Television Festival. Spokeswoman Beth Willis told reporters, “We’re so proud that this global success story began at Channel 4 and that a second series is on its way. Charlie’s witty, wonderful world is back, and we can’t wait to see where she takes it next.”

Covell herself is excited to expand on her work. When asked how season two would pan out, the writer said it would be about exploring the world they built in the first season. “I just love the world of [James and Alyssa] out there on the road, doing something in a weird world. So for me, any story that we expand keeps them out there somewhere.”

Netflix Charges Forward into the Unknown

The End of the F***ing World shows Netflix’s willingness to tap into strange genres. The debut of its original series Stranger Things in 2016 gave the media giant a glimpse into what people really wanted to see.

After this first success, the streaming company is sure to be more adventurous. Channel 4 has announced several more projects in the near future. With a budding relationship like this, a few are sure to end up on Netflix.
