Ed Sheeran and his music are everywhere these days. For more than a decade now, the famous English singer/songwriter is making the rounds on the music circuit for the all the right reasons. Since his first song, Sheeran has had some smashing hits to his name. The A-Team, Sing, I See Fire are few of the many songs that his fans all around the world have adored.

Recently Ed Sheeran released a new album called ‘÷’ (Divide) and it was only a matter of days before the album made it to the very top. Among all the other songs, his song ‘Shape of You’ received a resounding response from music lovers. The tune, the lyrics, and the theme were all typical Ed Sheeran and therefore, it has been the number one song on Billboard’s Top 100 charts for seven weeks straight. The song made it to the top of the list on 18th Feb and since then, no song has been able to replace it.

But, after the success of the song, music fanatics started to point out the similarities between the song Shape of You and TLC’s 1999 hit ‘No Scrubs’. The all-girl band that included Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, at the time when No Scrubs was released, is the second most successful American all-girl band after Spice Girls. The band that has sold over 65 million copies in total, has been on the music scene for almost 18 years now.

With the similarities between the two songs pointed out, Ed Sheeran and his team swiftly added TLC’s No Scrubs songwriters to the credit list of Shape of You. The move was made rather quietly by the Brit and his team without mentioning the additions anywhere on social media or their official website. The adding of writers to the credit list would signal a financial lottery for Kevin ‘She’kspere’ Briggs, Tameka ‘Tiny’ Cottle, Kandi Burruss, and the late Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes. Tiny and Burruss who were previously members of another all girl band Xscape, are now part of the reality show The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Experts consider the addition as a smart move by Ed Sheeran to avoid any legal action that could have come his way. The album Divide has already sold more than four million copies worldwide and the No Scrubs songwriters will receive a good chunk of the financial proceedings from the album and the song, Shape of You.
