Doctor Strange’s New Foe Revealed For Upcoming Sequel

Published

on

When Doctor Strange hit theaters in 2016, it was met with massive approval and an Oscar nomination. Fortunately for fans, a sequel is in the works. Many people have been wondering who the surgeon-turned-sorcerer would face. One writer decided to spill the beans.

A Nightmare To Remember

C. Robert Cargill, who was a writer on Doctor Strange, stated that the hero would face Nightmare. Created by Stan Lee, Nightmare is the ruler of a Dream Dimension and a major enemy for Strange and Ghost Rider. The character made its debut alongside Strange in Strange Tales #110.

In a 2016 interview with IGN, director Scott Derrickson wanted to involve Nightmare and the Nightmare Realm in the sequel. “I hope somewhere down the line we do get to explore that because I think that’s super cool concept,” he said

Friend Into Foe

A major plot development in the 2016 film involves Strange’s relationship with his friend and colleague Karl Mordo. At the end of the film, Mordo felt betrayed by Strange. In the comic books, Mordo is one of Strange’s biggest foes.

When it comes to exploring this tainted relationship in the sequel, Cargill is all for it. “Marvel movies work in threes. They also work outside of their threes. Some of the better Marvel films have more than one villain in them,” he stated in a Q&A session.

Once And For All

Before we can see Doctor Strange on his own again, he’ll be a part of Avengers: Infinity War. Set for release on April 27, the film follows the Avengers in their fight against Thanos. In order to do so, they must join forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Doctor Strange will also be a part of Avengers 4, which is slated to be released on May 3, 2019.
