Dick Van Dyke Is Still Dancing And Looks The Same As Ever In “Mary Poppins Returns” Trailer

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! The new trailer for Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns has been released and everyone is excited, especially once we saw Dick Van Dyke appear for a quick second. Now 92 years old, fans are amazed that Van Dyke looks exactly like he did in the original Mary Poppins— filmed over 50 years ago.

The Original Film

Fans of the 1964 Mary Poppins might remember Dick Van Dyke as the young, jack-of-all-trades Bert, who serves as a companion to Mary Poppins. In 1964, Van Dyke was the king of physical comedy, but he wasn’t afraid to perform any role, even if it meant he would play an older man.

Playing Mr. Dawes Sr.

Dick Van Dyke requested to play the role of Mr. Dawes Sr. in the original film—at no extra cost! When he read the script, he immediately “saw myself doing that character.” Mr. Dawes Sr. is the director of London’s main financial center, and he is compared to Charles Dickens’ famous Ebenezer Scrooge. Van Dyke comedically transformed himself into an elderly man back in 1964. But now, 50 years later, he looks exactly the same.

He’s Still Dancing!

The new trailer for Mary Poppins Returns briefly shows Dick Van Dyke dancing on a desk. If you remember from the first film, Mr. Dawes Sr. died at the end from laughing too hard. To be consistent, Van Dyke is portraying his son, who would now be an elderly man himself.
