Denzel Washington Returns To His Butt-Kicking Ways In ‘The Equalizer 2’

In 2014, The Equalizer, which earned $192 million worldwidebecame a surprise hit with critics praising its electric fight scenes. On July 20, 2018, two-time Oscar-winner Denzel Washington returns as Robert McCall for some more action. Luckily, people are getting their very first look at this summer blockbuster.

There Is No Equal

The first trailer for The Equalizer 2 will please fans of the first movie. The movie follows McCall’s journey into finding justice for a lost friend. “They killed my friend, so I’m gonna kill each and every one of them, and the only disappointment is that I only get to do it once,” he proclaims in the trailer.

Some Familiar Faces

Denzel isn’t the only one making their return from the 2014 film. Melissa Leo and Bill Pullman, who respectively played Susan and Brian Plummer, will come back for round two. “I was very honored with the way that they had written Susan Plummer in the second film,” Leo told Collider.

One rumored cast member that has been popping up is rapper Eminem. The platinum-selling artist featured his track “Guts Over Fear” in the 2014 film. Ever since his starring role in 8 Mile, Eminem has been making sporadic acting appearances. His most recent role was in the 2014 comedy The Interview.

Up In The Air

A month after The Equalizer‘s release, director Antoine Fuqua revealed he was open for a sequel. “It could be more international. This is a guy who could work in Home Mart one day, or go blend in while living in Italy,” he told Variety. This will be Fuqua’s fourth movie with Washington.

The Equalizer is based on the ’80s TV series of the same name. Washington takes over the role of McCall from Edward Woodward. The Equalizer 2 was mostly filmed in Boston. The film was originally slated to be released worldwide on September 29, 2017 before it switched dates several times.
