A Deleted Nightmare On Elm Street Scene Changes The Plot Entirely

Published

on

In 1984, Wes Craven released A Nightmare on Elm Street, becoming one of the most well-known horror films of all time. The movie depicts the frightening serial killer, Freddy Krueger, who murders children and teenagers in their dreams. The lore behind A Nightmare on Elm Street has been fantasized for many years since its release, but this deleted scene changes the entire movie in ways fans never expected.

The Original Pivotal Nightmare Scene

In the released film, protagonist Nancy and her mother Marge engage in an important conversation in their house’s basement. When Nancy reveals her dreams of Freddy Krueger, her mother tells her the story of the man’s past.

Marge tells Nancy that who Krueger was “a filthy child murderer who killed at least 20 kids in the neighborhood.” She tells Nancy that he was released due to a legal technicality involving a search warrant and that the parents in the town burned him alive to get their revenge on the wretched man.

The Game-Changer Clip

This scene is a turning point in the film but changes drastically when you watch the entire cut. In the original scene, Nancy’s mother admits that the parents didn’t kill Freddy simply out of fear. Many of the neighborhood parents, including the parents of Glen, Rod, and Tina, all had children killed by Krueger.

That’s right: Nancy and her friends all once had siblings, whose lives were taken by the treacherous villain. This influences Nancy’s motivation to draw Krueger out of her dreams and into the real world to kill him, as well as the subsequent movie plots that followed the original film.

Why Didn’t Fans Know Before?

The deleted scene was actually released in 1996, in a LaserDisc release of the original movie with deleted scenes. It was also featured in several home films on VHS after the LaserDisc became available.

The clip was even released on YouTube in 2010 but, it’s had less than 200,000 views since posted. Many fans haven’t seen the clip yet, but with it being brought to light now, many more will get to explore the new possibilities for their favorite horror film.

These Celebrity Doppelgangers From The Past Have Us Seeing Double

Time travel is a mystifying concept. Much like the idea of extraterrestrial life, it has captured the human imagination for as long as we have existed. As of now, scientists have not been able to confirm whether traveling through time is possible, and though there isn’t any kind of hard evidence that proves human beings can time travel, these photos of celebrities alongside what appear to be them in other time periods will sure make you wonder.
