‘Dark Knight’ Fan Theory Suggests Harvey Dent Was A Criminal From The Beginning

It may have been ten years since The Dark Knight premiered, but many fans are still speculating about the characters’ inner lives.

A Groundbreaking New Theory

Recently, one particularly creative Reddit user by the name of Tyman19 rolled out his theory about Harvey Dent’s past. He began by proposing that Dent’s civil servitude may have always been a cover for secret criminal activity.

The Oscar Buzz

“What if everything we knew about Harvey Dent was a lie? What if he wasn’t the district attorney we saw him as? Dent took a dark fall when he turned into the menacing Two-Face and began to take down the people who didn’t save Rachel,” he wrote. “What if he wasn’t a district attorney all this time, what if he was actually a gangster the whole time?”

Did He Defend The Bad Guys?

Tyman19 continued, citing some keys moments in the film indicating Dent’s villainous tendencies. “The examples are when Commissioner Gordon was confronting Dent, Gordon explains that ‘he was trying to fight the mob’. After he said that, Dent clicked his gun at Gordon.”

Breaking Geek

“He doesn’t want the mob to be disrespected. You can see a lot of that stuff in gangster movies.”

Harvey’s Hidden Dark Side

“Another example is Dent has an aggressive and violent nature,” read the post. “He shouts at people when they least expect it. And when he was interrogating one of Joker’s goons, he was yelling and being a little violent while asking him [about] the Joker’s whereabouts.”

Making note of Harvey’s hot temper and less-than-professional actions, the Redditer went on to explain why Dent would have wanted to fight crime if he himself was a criminal: “Harvey Dent wants to get rid of the Joker so Dent can take over Gotham.”
