When Exactly Will Chris Evans Hang Up His Shield As Captain America?

Published

on

Boston native Chris Evans got the role of a lifetime as Captain America. As expected, being one of the biggest Marvel characters ever comes with amazing perks. All good things must come to an end, though. We look at how much Evans has left in the tank as the Cap.

A Reunion Of Sorts

Chris Evans is no stranger to Marvel. In 2005, he joined the cast of Fox’s Fantastic Four as The Human Torch. While many actors screen tested for Captain America, Marvel Studios simply offered Evans the role. He turned it down on several occasions because of the multi-movie deal. “When you have a giant contract, all of a sudden, you’re not responding well? Too bad. You gotta suit up again. That was scary,” he told Jimmy Kimmel.

When Patriots Become Heroes

His debut as Captain America came in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger. He joined his fellow Marvel actors in The Avengers, which became the highest grossing film for 2012. During his first films as the superhero, Evans gained wins at the People’s Choice Awards and Teen Choice Awards.

A Kind Heart

Evans is thrilled with the beloved role, but he did have some issues with the character. “He’s a little vanilla. He’s a good man, but he’s not exactly flashy,” the actor told Rolling Stone. When it comes to the fans, Evans has went above and beyond to show his appreciation. In 2015, he visited the Seattle Children’s Hospital dressed as Captain America.

Destiny Arrives

For Chris Evans, Avengers: Infinity War was supposed to be the final film in his contract. Fortunately for fans, he signed on for one more movie. Evans, however, would be okay with returning as his beloved character. “Talk to Marvel. If we engage further, I’d be open to it. I love the character,” he told Esquire.

A Glimpse Into The Future

Looking beyond his tenure with Marvel, Evans has plenty on his plate. He’s slated to appear in Jekyll, which is based off the BBC One series released in 2007. Evans is also working on The Red Sea Diving Resort. This biopic is based off the 1981 rescue of Ethiopian Jews from Sudan. Evans’ true passion, however, is directing, and he hopes to return behind the camera soon.
