‘Captain Marvel’ To Use Revolutionary New Technology To De-Age Samuel L. Jackson

Published

The heavily anticipated Marvel film, Captain Marvel, is coming out soon, and fans can’t help but obsess over it. While most of the details remain under wraps, it’s been reported that the movie will be set in the 90’s. The plot will focus primarily on the origin story of Brie Larson’s character, Carol Danvers. Other Marvel favorites, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) will also be featured. But how are the producers going to deal with their obvious age gap?!

What’s The Plan?

Through the use of state-of-the-art digital effects, the expert editors over at Marvel are planning to do something that’s never been done before: digitally de-age not one, but two characters for the entirety of a feature-length film.

This is a super risky move, to say the least. We all know how many millions of dollars are invested in these films. So to gamble with such an unknown special effect is reason enough for their potent fan base to get a tad nervous in anticipation of its release.

Are They The First To Do It?

Not quite. Nearly a decade ago, such a feat was attempted during the reboot of Tron. But, despite their best efforts, Jeff Bridges’ younger self didn’t sit well with critics.

But that box office flop didn’t stop the genius creators at Marvel from giving it a shot.

How Confident Are They?

When reached for comment, Kevin Feige (Head at Marvel Studios) was more than happy to explain how optimistic he is about the project: “Well, I think having the option is pretty amazing.  And I think having the technology and even without spoiling anything, Sam Jackson is shooting a movie for us right now that takes, where he’s entirely 25 years younger the whole movie [Captain Marvel].”

He then adds, “So that’ll be the first one where it’s a character for the whole movie, as opposed to a glimpse at a certain period of time.  It’s the whole movie.  So it’s possible, assuming that works. It’s possible.”
