Donna Brazile Admits Supplying Hillary Campaign with Debate Topics
When Donna Brazile was the vice chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), she supplied Hillary Clinton’s campaign with debate topics in advance. This is a charge that she has vehemently denied for months but admitted to this week in a piece she wrote for Time Magazine. This was done during the primary contest. Many of her primary opponent’s supporters believed that the DNC was always on Hillary’s side and this new revelation just adds to that.
The topics were for town hall debate between Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Hillary that was aired on CNN.
“Then in October, a subsequent release of emails revealed that among the many things I did in my role as a Democratic operative and D.N.C. Vice Chair prior to assuming the interim D.N.C. Chair position was to share potential town hall topics with the Clinton campaign. I had been working behind the scenes to add more town hall events and debates to the primary calendar, and I helped ensure those events included diverse moderators and addressed topics vital to minority communities. My job was to make all our Democratic candidates look good, and I worked closely with both campaigns to make that happen. But sending those emails was a mistake I will forever regret.”
Brazile blames the Russians.
The revelation was part of the WikiLeaks email hack that many think was conducted by the Russian government.
Brazile goes on to say that a thorough investigation of the Russian involvement in the 2016 election needs to be done. She has called for a “9/11 type” investigation by a non-partisan committee.
Committees on both sides of Capitol Hill are investigating the Russian hacking. The charge that Russia was behind the hacking of Hillary campaign staff’s emails and the DNC has been backed up by findings by 17 American intelligence agencies. The House Intelligence Committee will hold a hearing on the matter on Monday and the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), James Comey, will testify.
